As MTV officially signs off, Regine Tolentino — the Philippines’ first-ever MTV VJ — takes a nostalgic look back on the chapter that launched her into the global entertainment spotlight.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, the multi-talented dancer, host, and actress wrote:

“Now that MTV has officially closed, I can’t help but feel grateful and nostalgic. Growing up in the US, MTV shaped my love for music, dance, and fashion — it was where I discovered my passion and individuality. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that one day I’d become the first Filipino MTV VJ, working in Singapore and representing the Philippines at just 17 years old.”

Tolentino recalled how her time with MTV opened doors to a world of opportunities — from traveling between Manila and Singapore to hosting concerts and interviewing some of the biggest names in global music.

“It was such an honor to do different shows and concerts, and have the chance to meet and interview global artists like the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Boyzone, Simply Red, Aqua, and Alanis Morissette — truly a dream come true for that young girl who grew up watching the channel every day.”

Her journey as a VJ not only marked a milestone for Filipino representation in international pop culture but also helped inspire a generation who found freedom and creativity through music television.

Tolentino ended her message with a heartfelt tribute:

“Thank you, MTV, for being such a huge part of my journey. You weren’t just a channel — you were an era, an icon, and an inspiration for millions around the world. Your legacy lives on in us forever.”

MTV may have ended its broadcast, but for Regine and countless fans across generations, its rhythm, rebellion, and spirit will always play on.
