A 68-year-old former journalist was allegedly hacked to death by his drinking companion in Rodriguez, Rizal, early Wednesday morning.
Authorities identified the victim as Norberto "Bert" Javier, a former reporter and currently serving as a barangay tanod (village watchman).
According to the Rodriguez Municipal Police Station, the incident occurred around 4:40 AM inside the suspect's store in Sitio Wawa, Barangay San Rafael.
Initial investigation revealed that Javier and the suspect, 33-year-old businessman Victor Enavia, were drinking together before the attack. For reasons yet to be determined, Enavia allegedly hacked the victim multiple times.
A concerned citizen alerted the police, who responded and found Javier with multiple wounds at the scene. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Enavia was immediately arrested and is now in police custody.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the killing.
Meanwhile, it was found out that the suspect has filmed the killing using his mobile phone showing the brutal killing of the former journalist.
The suspect hacked the victim several times on the neck and other parts of the body who, at that time, was sleeping sitting in the chair due to alcohol intoxication.
In the video, the suspect–who was apparently high on illegal drugs–was seen talking "Alamat ako ng Wawa. Ito tandaan nyo mga g**o kayo! Tandaan nyo hindi ako yung pipitsuging tao, mga g**o kayo!"
The suspect added: "Pasensya na hindi ko alam ang ginagawa ko." NEIL ALCOBER
