The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced Friday it has suspended the driver’s license of a Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) driver accused of raping a passenger.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said he informed Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, who expressed anger over the incident.

“The instruction of Secretary Dizon is to make sure that this driver is punished if the pieces of evidence is strong based on the conduct of the investigation,” Mendoza said.

The driver faces a violation for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle, which may lead to license revocation. Mendoza noted that the driver will be served a show cause order and given a chance to respond as part of due process.

The driver is currently in police custody and facing criminal charges. The license suspension is preventive and will last 90 days while the investigation proceeds.

Mendoza said the action aligns with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to strictly enforce rules against erring motorists, especially in public transportation.
