Members of the Makati City police arrested a man posing as an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after he fired a gun at police officers during a covert operation in Makati City on Sunday night, 11 May.
The suspect, identified only as “Arleen,” was apprehended near a mall in Barangay Bel-Air, Makati City.
According to a police report, members of the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) of the Southern Police District (SPD) and the Makati City Police were conducting an anti-robbery operation along Nicanor Garcia Street when the suspect approached them and introduced himself as an NBI agent.
The man reportedly asked the operatives if they were police officers. When they confirmed, Arleen told them he had a gun and said, “Gusto nyo patayin ko kayo?” before opening fire with a Glock 17 pistol.
(“Do you want me to kill you?”)
The officers quickly took cover, and a short foot chase ensued. The suspect fled toward his residence and, after a brief standoff, eventually surrendered to police. Authorities recovered his Glock 17 pistol along with three loaded magazines.
The Makati City police said the suspect is currently in custody, pending the filing of appropriate criminal charges. A follow-up investigation is underway to determine any additional liabilities or affiliations.
Makati City Police Chief Col. Jean Dela Torre said the successful operation reflects the unwavering commitment of the Southern Police District and the Makati CPS to safeguard the community from criminal elements. She also commended the courage and restraint shown by the operatives, which, she said, prevented further harm and ensured public safety.
