Authorities arrested a robbery suspect and recovered stolen jewelry and a loaded firearm following a robbery along Metropolitan Avenue in Barangay Bel-Air, Makati City, early Saturday, 24 October.

The suspect, identified as alias “Owa,” 26, unemployed and a resident of Barangay Pio del Pilar, Makati City, was arrested for alleged robbery under Article 293 of the Revised Penal Code and violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. His companion, identified only as John Doe, escaped aboard a motorcycle.

According to the police report, personnel of the Makati City Police Station’s Station Intelligence Section were conducting covert monitoring and anti-criminality patrols aboard private motorcycles in coordination with Substation 6 under the Southern Police District’s Borderless Policing System “Timpuyog” when they heard a woman shouting for help near a roadside establishment.

The officers responded and found the victim, a 38-year-old Jolly Jeep vendor, visibly distressed. She reported that two motorcycle-riding suspects, one of whom was armed, forcibly took her gold bracelet and necklace before fleeing.

Acting on the victim’s description and the suspects’ direction of escape, the officers launched a hot pursuit operation. Along Metropolitan Avenue in Barangay Bel-Air, they spotted two individuals whose physical appearances and clothing matched the descriptions provided by the victim.

When the officers identified themselves as police personnel, one suspect fled aboard the motorcycle, while the other attempted to escape on foot and reached for a firearm tucked into his waist. The officers restrained the latter and recovered a .38-caliber revolver loaded with three rounds of ammunition, a black belt bag, and the victim’s gold jewelry.

The victim positively identified the recovered gold necklace, valued at approximately P20,000, and gold bracelet, worth P15,000, as her belongings. The firearm and ammunition were also secured as evidence.

Further verification through the Integrated Security Assistance and Verification system reportedly showed that the arrested suspect had previous recorded cases involving homicide, theft, illegal gambling, and violations of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The suspect and the recovered evidence were turned over to the Makati City Police Station’s Investigation and Detective Management Section for further investigation and proper disposition.
