College of Saint Benilde sniper Migs Oczon has done a stellar job maintaining the Blazers' hold of the top spot in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 98 men's basketball tournament.
Oczon averaged 15.2 points and 3.5 rebounds as Saint Benilde took down Season 97 finalist Mapua University and San Beda University in back-to-back wins last week.
The former National University gunner scored 14 points against the Cardinals before tallying 11 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Blazers downed the Red Lions for the first time since 2014.
His performance earned the nods of sports scribes from print and online publications as the Collegiate Press Corps NCAA Player of the Week presented by the Philippine Sports Commission.
Oczon outshone for the weekly honors backed by minor sponsors Jockey, Tinapayan Festival, and MNL Kingpin teammate Miggy Corteza, Jose Rizal University's Marwin Dionisio and Joshua Guiab, Fran Yu of Letran, and San Beda's James Kwekuteye.
Oczon got the green light to shoot from Saint Benilde head coach Charles Tiu.
"We needed to score so whenever I had the chance to shoot, I took it. I got confident with it because I worked on it in the offseason and it paid off," he said.
The Davao native is the second Blazer to win the award decided upon by print and online writers regularly covering the league, after versatile big Will Gozum.
