The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Cagayan-Batanes Irrigation Management Office (CBIMO) conducted an orientation and seminar on records management processes and controls to strengthen transparency, accountability and efficiency in public service.

The activity gathered personnel from various irrigation management and field offices through face-to-face and virtual participation, focusing on proper records management practices and their role in ensuring effective government operations.

Engr. Jason Bryan T. Teaño, acting Division Manager A, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of systematically creating, receiving, maintaining, retrieving, protecting and preserving official government records.

He also underscored the responsibility of every employee to safeguard documents that serve as evidence of government transactions, decisions and activities.

Chairpersons of the NIA Region 2 Documented Information Teams served as resource speakers, discussing established standards and procedures for handling, organizing, storing, retrieving and maintaining official records.

The seminar also highlighted compliance with Republic Act No. 9470, or the National Archives of the Philippines Act of 2007, which establishes the legal framework for the proper management and preservation of public records.

Participants were reminded to observe records management policies, protect confidential information, maintain document integrity and ensure the proper preservation and disposal of government records in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

NIA-CBIMO said effective records management is essential to improving operational efficiency, supporting timely decision-making and strengthening accountability in the delivery of public services.

The activity forms part of the agency's efforts to improve its records management systems and promote a workplace culture anchored on responsibility, compliance and good governance.
