Apl.de.Ap returns home with Filipino-inspired EP
‘’Why’ is a love letter to the country. And like any love story, there is heartbreak in what’s happening’

After decades of bringing Filipino pride to the global stage, Grammy Award-winning artist Apl.de.Ap is returning to his roots with his first solo EP outside the Black Eyed Peas.
Released under GMA Music, PPP (Power to the Pilipino People) features three songs that reflect the artist’s love for the Philippines, while highlighting themes of love, hope and peace.
“This is my first solo EP apart from the Black Eyed Peas,” Apl shared. “I wanted to make sure it represented who I am as a Filipino, and I dedicate it to my home country, the Philippines.”
The three-track collection serves as a personal tribute to his heritage, with songs that aim to inspire Filipinos to recognize their strength and their ability to create change.
Leading the EP is “Why,” a collaboration with OPM rock icon Bamboo. The song explores the complicated relationship between loving one’s country while confronting the challenges it faces.
“‘Why’ is a love letter to the country. And like any love story, there is heartbreak in what’s happening,” Apl said.
The track also calls for accountability among leaders and encourages Filipinos to stand up for their rights and the future of the nation.
Apl described working with Bamboo as a dream collaboration, praising him as “a true Filipino artist” and someone who shares the same passion for celebrating the country through music.
The EP’s message of hope comes through “Turn Around,” featuring Fil-Am artist and fellow Black Eyed Peas member J. Rey Soul. The song reflects resilience and the belief that people can overcome difficult moments.
Meanwhile, “Pinoy United” featuring Datu Khomeini highlights peace and unity, drawing inspiration from the culture and heritage of Mindanao.
Through PPP, Apl.de.Ap continues his mission of blending international sounds with Filipino stories, using music to celebrate identity, culture and the values that connect Filipinos around the world.
“My music always reflects who I am, with Filipino words, culture, and values incorporated into it,” Apl said. “This EP is really about love, peace and hope for the Filipino people.”
PPP (Power to the Pilipino People) is now available on major streaming platforms worldwide.
