The third Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival 2026, bankrolled and organized by Puregold, was held from 23 September to 4 October. Seven full-length films and 19 student short films were screened in partner cinemas across Metro Manila.

Mono No Aware took home the festival’s highest honors, winning Best Picture, Best Director for BC Amparado, Best Actor for Juan Karlos Labajo, Best Supporting Actress for Momoko Kabayashi, Best Ensemble and the International Jury Award.

Xyriel Manabat won her first Best Actress trophy for Stuck on You. Apol of My AI earned Best Supporting Actor for Zanjoe Marudo and Best Child Actor for Zion Cruz. The film also received the Jury Prize. The Audience Choice Award went to Mutwoh (Patay na Patay Sa ’Yo).

The Best Short Film award went to Samantha Palaje’s Limlim, while Jomarie Corro Reyes’ Kun Hsin, Bisan Diin received the Jury Prize.

Following the festival, the four most-awarded films extended their theatrical run for another week. This year’s box-office favorite, Rodina Singh’s Mutwoh, begins its nationwide theatrical release on 21 October.

Factors

Several interconnected factors explain why the third edition of the CinePanalo Film Festival continued its winning streak.

Foremost among them is the generous financial support. Each of the seven full-length entries received a P5-million production grant, while student filmmakers were awarded P200,000 each. CMB Film Services also provided P1.25 million in equipment rental grants, while Terminal Six Post extended production service vouchers. These substantial grants and production support translated into high-quality films.

Another key factor was the festival’s theme-free lineup. The competing films emphasized Filipino stories, exploring family, coming-of-age, identity, love and the darker realities of everyday life. These narratives sparked curiosity, generated interest and inspired audiences to experience the festival firsthand.

Commercial appeal and artistic excellence also blended seamlessly, particularly through the casting of seasoned actors alongside promising newcomers.

Affordable ticket prices of P250 and accessible cinema venues likewise contributed to the festival’s success.

Festival merchandise, including custom tote bags, pins and grocery bags, also helped raise public awareness. Combined with coverage from broadsheets and tabloids, social media buzz and an engaging on-site community experience, these efforts amplified moviegoers’ excitement and enthusiasm.

Above all, the festival’s advocacy remains its greatest strength. The organizers did not measure success solely through audience growth, ticket sales or media mileage. Instead, they defined success by how well the festival fulfilled its mission of empowering storytellers, providing a platform for filmmakers, and celebrating Filipino culture, values and heritage through cinema.

Victory

In its third year, the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival has provided more than a meaningful boost to the Philippine film industry. It has delivered on its promise, producing tangible results rather than mere perceptions.

Despite being a relatively young festival, it has remained steadfast in providing substantial grants and post-production assistance, offering meaningful support to the filmmakers behind this year’s full-length and short film selections.

Its success is evident in growing attendance, sold-out premieres, block screenings, regular screenings, positive word of mouth and impressive exposure across both traditional and digital media.

With CinePanalo, we can confidently say that there is an audience willing to spend its hard-earned money and valuable time on quality Filipino films.

In the end, the festival’s higher production grants, strong production support, commitment to original storytelling, extended theatrical runs, increased audience engagement and recognition for filmmakers, artists and creatives have all contributed to sustaining public interest in Philippine cinema. For Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival, it is truly a job well done.
