Solon: Mynt's P6.60 IPO price boosts retail investor access

The final pricing of Mynt Inc.’s initial public offering (IPO) at P6.60 per share could bring ownership of one of the country's largest digital platforms within reach of a broader base of Filipino retail investors, according to a House lawmaker.
Representative JP Padiernos, a member of the House Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries, said the GCash IPO presents a vital opportunity to expand capital market participation, provided it is matched with robust financial literacy and investor protection.
"The GCash IPO presents an opportunity to discuss how more Filipinos can participate in our retail capital markets. But expanding access must go hand in hand with financial literacy, transparent disclosures, and adequate investor protection," Padiernos said. "Filipinos should be equipped to understand both the opportunities and the risks before investing."
At P6.60 per share, an investor buying a minimum block of 100 shares will need P660 before applicable fees and charges—offering a significantly lower barrier to entry than the P10 maximum offer price previously floated for the listing.
The offering is expected to streamline stock-market participation for first-time investors.
GCash shares will reportedly be made available directly through the GStocks feature within the GCash app, while qualified Local Small Investors (LSIs) can subscribe via the Philippine Stock Exchange’s PSE EASy platform.
Padiernos stressed that the broader significance of the transaction extends beyond the volume of capital raised.
"If more Filipinos who are already part of the digital economy can also become investors in it, we are widening participation in our capital market and strengthening the culture of investment among our people," he said.
The listing arrives as digital financial services become heavily embedded in everyday Filipino life. GCash currently anchors a vast ecosystem encompassing payments, savings, credit, and investment tools, giving millions of users daily touchpoints with digital finance.
Analysts note the IPO could demystify stock ownership for everyday citizens who historically viewed the equities market as accessible only to seasoned financial players.
However, the Nueva Ecija lawmaker cautioned that accessibility must remain balanced with safeguarding public interest.
"We should welcome efforts that bring legitimate investment opportunities closer to ordinary Filipinos, while also reminding the public that investing requires informed decisions," Padiernos said.
"The real measure of financial inclusion is not only whether Filipinos can use digital financial services, but whether they can also participate meaningfully in the opportunities created by the digital economy. This IPO can open that conversation to millions more Filipinos," he added.
