Years after their highly publicized breakup, singer-songwriter Nyoy Volante has made it clear that he carries no lingering issue with former girlfriend Nina.
During his guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Nyoy was asked about his present relationship with the Soul Siren and whether the two remain on good terms after everything they went through.
For Nyoy, both have already entered different chapters of their lives.
“Okay naman, everyone’s moved on, pareho kaming may asawa na,” he said.
He explained that he sees no particular reason for them to reconnect at this point, although he personally has no problem with Nina.
“I don’t think there’s a reason anymore right now to reach out to each other pero ako, I can’t really speak for everyone. Ako, wala akong problem,” Nyoy shared.
The singer added that his focus today is on the life he has built with his own family.
“I’m very happy with the family and the life that I have right now, so okay na ’yon. I’m good,” he said.
The conversation also revisited a lasting connection between Nyoy and Nina—the hit song “Someday,” which Nyoy wrote and Nina eventually turned into one of the most recognizable songs of her career.
Nyoy revealed that the composition was originally intended for himself. At the time, however, he was still working on his own album while Nina was already close to completing hers and needed additional material.
“Yes, but also nung panahon na ’yon, I was actually writing this for myself,” he recalled.
With Nina needing another song and a deadline approaching, Nyoy decided to give her “Someday” rather than start an entirely new composition.
“This was supposed to be mine, kaya lang nagde-deadline na, so kesa bumuo pa ’ko ng isang awitin, sinama ko na lang itong ‘Someday,’” he explained.
That decision ultimately gave Nina a major hit—and gave Nyoy a composition that would travel far beyond the Philippines.
“Eventually she made it very famous,” Nyoy acknowledged, adding that he remains grateful for what the song accomplished.
According to him, “Someday” has attracted interest internationally, including inquiries from Korean artists looking to create their own versions.
“I’m actually very grateful to this song kasi ito ’yung awitin ko na umabot na ng international. Everyone wants a version. Koreans have been reaching out to me because of the song,” he said.
Looking back, Nyoy’s comments suggest that while their romantic relationship belongs firmly to the past, one important piece of their shared musical history continues to live on.
Nina may have supplied the voice that made “Someday” famous, but behind the enduring OPM favorite is a song Nyoy once intended to sing himself—a composition that ultimately became an unexpected link between two artists whose lives have long since moved in different directions.
