Carlos Yulo may have spent years mastering the demanding world of gymnastics, but the Filipino champion admits there is another important aspect of his life that he is still learning to navigate—managing his finances.

Yulo candidly acknowledged that handling money has never been one of his strongest areas. For much of his career, his attention was understandably centered on training, competition and improving his performance as an athlete.

“Pagdating diyan sa money… aaminin ko hindi ko talaga forte ’yon and mas pipiliin kong mag-focus sa gymnastics more than sa gano’ng bagay,” Yulo shared.

As his career and responsibilities continue to grow, however, the gymnast recognizes that financial management is something he can no longer set aside. He believes learning how to properly handle his resources is an essential part of becoming more independent and preparing for the future.

Helping him through that process is his girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, whom Yulo credits as one of the people currently providing him with guidance.

“Sobrang suwerte ko talaga kasi nandito si Chloe sa tabi ko,” he said.

Yulo also revealed that financial matters were not something he felt sufficiently guided about in the past. Now, he is willing to listen and learn from the people he trusts as he becomes more involved in managing that side of his life.

“At the same time, it’s really kailangan siya sa buhay. And kailangan matutunan din siya and I’m happy and willing,” he explained.

His comments also offer a glimpse into the partnership he shares with Chloe beyond their highly publicized appearances together. For Yulo, her presence has become part of the support system surrounding him as he handles responsibilities outside the gym.

“’Yong tao sa paligid ko right now, they are guiding me,” he added.

Yulo’s admission reflects a transition familiar to many young athletes whose careers require intense focus from an early age. Years of mastering routines and pursuing sporting excellence do not automatically provide the same preparation for handling finances and other responsibilities away from competition.

This time, Yulo appears ready to approach money matters much like his sport—with an openness to learning, guidance from people he trusts and the understanding that improvement comes with experience.
