Meta faces heat as DICT backs tougher platform accountability

META has recently faced massive financial hits, legal rulings and government crackdowns for its failure to control child sexual abuse and exploitation online. A Tech Transparency Project September 2026 report revealed that Meta approved and ran over 300 paid advertisements featuring suspected AI-generated child abuse imagery and links to ‘nudification’ apps. This triggered an immediate legal order from the San Francisco City Attorney on 10 September, 2026, demanding Meta to stop allowing these predatory ads.
