Senator Christopher “Bong” Go called for heightened community vigilance and stronger preventive measures as he visited fire-affected residents in Barangay 178, Pasay City.

The 7 September blaze displaced 29 families and resulted in the loss of domestic pets, prompting Go to remind local communities about the importance of proactive fire safety to prevent casualties.

“A lost life is a lost life forever,” Go said, stressing that safeguards must begin at the neighborhood level alongside national firefighting investments.

Go highlighted his legislative efforts regarding disaster response, including Republic Act 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act, which provides updated equipment, expanded manpower, and specialized training for firefighters.

He also cited RA 12076, known as the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which directs the construction of permanent evacuation facilities nationwide, and Senate Bill 173, which proposes creating a dedicated Department of Disaster Resilience.

During the relief activity held at the Barangay 178 Gym, Go’s Malasakit Team collaborated with local officials to deliver direct assistance.

Beneficiaries received emergency financial aid, grocery packs, hot meals, vitamins, water containers, clothing, school supplies, and sports equipment. Selected residents were also provided with bicycles, wristwatches, and footwear.

En route to the venue, Go purchased food items from street vendors — including kwek-kwek, turon, balut, banana cue and carioca — to distribute to residents, reiterating his support for micro-entrepreneurs and local businesses.

Go stated he would continue conducting direct field visits to disaster-stricken areas alongside his legislative duties in the Senate.
