Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has provided assistance to 118 families affected by a recent fire in Barangay 51, Pasay City.
Go and his Malasakit Team coordinated with local officials and held the relief activity at the Barangay 54 Gym. The families received financial assistance, grocery packs, vitamins, water containers, shirts, pens, snacks, and basketballs and volleyballs.
He said the government must continue investing in fire prevention, disaster preparedness, emergency response and recovery.
The senator served as the principal author and co-sponsor of Republic Act 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act, which provides for modern firefighting equipment, additional BFP personnel and specialized training.
He also principally authored and co-sponsored Republic Act 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which mandates permanent evacuation centers nationwide. He also filed Senate Bill 173, which seeks to create a Department of Disaster Resilience.
Go also encouraged young people to participate in sports and other productive activities, particularly following recent incidents of school violence.
He cited the National Academy of Sports in New Clark City, Tarlac, established under Republic Act 11470, as an option for young athletes to pursue education and specialized training.
