NAGA CITY – Police arrested two men in separate incidents in the provinces of Masbate and Camarines Norte at the start of the week, the Philippine National Police Region 5 said.

In Masbate, “Jers,” 27, was collared after he allegedly attempted to evade a checkpoint at around 12:05 p.m. on Monday, 7 September, in Barangay Jaboyoan in Aroroy town.

The checkpoint, which was manned by personnel from the Aroroy police, along the National Highway flagged down the suspect who was riding a red Rusi Macho 125 motorcycle. The suspect was described as a resident of Milagros, also in Masbate.

The suspect allegedly stopped and suddenly maneuvered away from the checkpoint, prompting police to chase him, the report said. One of the officers reportedly saw the handgrip of a short firearm protruding from the suspect’s black sling bag.

The suspect failed to produce the pertinent documents authorizing him to possess and carry the firearm, a .45 pistol with defaced markings and serial number. Police also seized a steel magazine loaded with six live rounds of ammunition and another steel magazine loaded with five live rounds of ammunition, both of the same caliber.

In Camarines Norte, police arrested “Romy,” 39, after he allegedly pointed a firearm at two persons in Barangay Lag-on, Daet at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, September 6, outside the UDC Cockpit Arena.

The victims, who were serving as watchmen, were reportedly responding to an altercation inside the cockpit arena. Police report said the watchmen saw the suspect emerge from the establishment and followed him in an attempt to confront him regarding the incident.

But the suspect allegedly drew a firearm and pointed it at both victims, prompting them to immediately seek assistance from patrolling Daet police personnel.

Police recovered a caliber .45 gun and a magazine loaded with four bullets from “Romy.” The suspect was taken into custody by the Daet police.

Both suspects will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, otherwise known as the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act,” the report said.
