Makati is one of Metro Manila’s Champions of Immunization!
On 7 August 2026, the Department of Health’s (DoH) Metro Manila Center for Health Development recognized the city at the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity 2026 awarding ceremony in Pasig City.
The DoH cited Makati for vaccinating more than 95 percent of the children covered by the MR-SIA campaign running from 10 to 28 August.
Dr. Bernard T. Sese, officer-in-charge of the Makati Health Department (MHD), accepted the recognition on behalf of the city.
The award comes as the city became the first local government unit in the National Capital Region to offer free flu vaccines to public school students.
The MHD launched the Makati City School-Based Influenza Vaccination Program on 3 August, aiming to administer the vaccine to a total of 31, 537 eligible students across all Makati public schools. The vaccination will continue until the scheduled completion of the program across public schools in the city.
The initiative aims to bring healthcare closer to every child by protecting students against seasonal influenza, reducing the spread of illness in schools and communities, and ensuring that children stay healthy, safe, and ready to learn throughout the school year, according to the Facebook page My Makati.
