    • Science and Technology Week 2026

The Department of Science and Technology (DoST) inaugurated an interactive science exhibit at Miputak East Central School, coinciding with the opening of the Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Science and Technology Week 2026.

Dubbed the “Dipolog Science Centrum,” the hub features 11 interactive exhibits designed for students, young learners and science enthusiasts.

“We offer an ecosystem for children to go and while playing in that science centrum, they also learn principles of science,” DoST Zamboanga Peninsula regional director Rosmarie Salazar told DAILY TRIBUNE, noting that the goal is to foster interest in science among local students.

The facility includes hands-on displays such as the Head on a Platter, Anti-Gravity Mirror, Laser Harp, Cyclone Simulator, Bernoulli Blower, Archimedes’ Screw, Pendulum Wave, pedal-powered generator, Finger-Tingler, Van de Graaff generator and Plasma Sphere.

Meantime, DoST Zamboanga del Norte provincial director Nuhman Alijani said the interactive setup demonstrates practical applications of scientific principles.

“So, there’s electricity, concepts of refraction, concepts of other things, and what’s good about it is that we can explain that science is not abstract,” Alijani said.

The project is a joint effort between the DoST, the Department of Education, and the Dipolog City government.

DoST funded the exhibits, DepEd manages day-to-day operations, and the city government funded infrastructure improvements.

In addition to the Science Centrum, the DoST inaugurated a satellite calibration laboratory at its provincial office in Dipolog City.

The lab will provide local industries, academic institutions, laboratories, and government agencies with access to calibration services in the province.
