Five wanted persons, illegal fisherman nabbed in La Union

Police arrested five wanted persons facing various criminal charges and apprehended a fisherman for violating a municipal fishery ordinance in separate law enforcement operations across La Union on 28 July.

In Aringay, personnel of the Aringay Municipal Police Station arrested a 47-year-old farmer wanted for attempted homicide by virtue of a warrant of arrest. The court recommended bail of P36,000. The accused is now under police custody.

In Naguilian, police also served a warrant of arrest against a 41-year-old laborer wanted for attempted homicide. Bail was likewise set at P36,000, and the suspect was taken to the Naguilian Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, in Santo Tomas, police apprehended a 61-year-old fisherman for violating Santo Tomas Municipal Fishery Ordinance No. 2, Series of 2003, Chapter XV, Section 72, which prohibits fishing without the required authorization.

Authorities confiscated a blue motorized banca marked "SHARYN" powered by a 16-horsepower Briggs & Stratton engine, valued at approximately P55,000, a fishing net worth about P10,000, and around three kilograms of assorted fish valued at P600.

The fisherman and the seized items were brought to the Santo Tomas Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition. Police said the operation was documented using an Alternative Recording Device.

In Agoo, officers arrested a 52-year-old construction worker wanted for slight physical injuries. The court set bail at P3,000, and the accused remains in police custody.

In a separate operation in Barangay San Antonio, Agoo, personnel of the 1st La Union Provincial Mobile Force Company, in coordination with the Agoo Municipal Police Station, arrested a 22-year-old construction worker who was also wanted for slight physical injuries. Bail was likewise set at P3,000, and the suspect was turned over to the Agoo Municipal Police Station.

Police said the operations formed part of their continuing campaign to serve outstanding warrants and enforce local ordinances aimed at maintaining peace, order, and public safety throughout the province.
