Four suspects were arrested while another remains at large following a robbery and carnapping incident in Barangay Victoria, Alicia, Isabela, police said.
The victim, identified only by the alias "Sammy," 51, is a businessman and resident of the barangay.
Police said the incident was discovered at around 5:30 a.m. on 15 July after the victim found his white Toyota Hilux missing and the gate of his property damaged.
Initial investigation showed that closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captured a suspect entering the victim's restaurant compound before proceeding to the residence. Authorities said the suspect allegedly entered the house through a bathroom sliding window after removing its metal grill.
The suspect reportedly stole a necklace with a pendant and other pieces of jewelry, which are still being inventoried. Police said the vehicle key, which had been left near the main door, was also taken before the Toyota Hilux was driven away.
Personnel of the Alicia Municipal Police Station immediately launched a backtracking operation using CCTV footage from nearby establishments. The victim later received information that the stolen vehicle had been spotted in Barangay Sta. Luciana, Cauayan City, heading toward the Cagayan River with three men and two women on board.
A joint operation by the Alicia Municipal Police Station and the Cauayan Component City Police Station led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of four suspects identified only by their aliases: "Rommie," 20, a native of Echague, Isabela; "Rosa," 31; "Xian," 22; and "Rexy," 20, all residents of Cauayan City.
The alleged principal suspect, identified only as "Lester," escaped and remains the subject of a manhunt.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the participation of each suspect in the crime and to locate the remaining fugitive. Appropriate criminal charges are being prepared against the arrested suspects.
