A newborn baby was rescued after being found abandoned inside a box near a tricycle terminal in Barangay Valdez, Floridablanca, on Friday.
Floridablanca Mayor Michael Galang said the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately responded after a resident reported discovering the infant.
According to the mayor, a tricycle driver noticed a box near the terminal and heard faint cries coming from inside. When he opened it, he found a newborn wrapped in diapers and clothes.
Responders rushed the baby to a hospital for medical attention. Galang said the infant still had an umbilical cord, which was later removed, and remains under medical observation.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office is processing the necessary documents to ensure the child's care, while the Department of Social Welfare and Development has been informed to provide appropriate assistance and protection.
Galang also directed the Floridablanca Municipal Police Station to investigate the incident and identify the baby's parents or the person who abandoned the child. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area as part of the investigation.
