The Sandiganbayan Third Division on Friday pressed the Philippine National Police (PNP) over Senator Rodante Marcoleta’s continued hospital confinement, questioning why Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Robin Padilla were allowed to visit the plunder-accused lawmaker without face masks despite his isolation for mild pneumonia.
Marcoleta, hospitalized at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame since his arrest on Monday, has yet to undergo booking procedures nearly a week later.
PNP-CIDG Metro Manila Chief Col. John Guiagui testified that Marcoleta complained of chest tightness while being served his arrest warrant, prompting hospitalization. He was later diagnosed with mild pneumonia, sinus tachycardia and degenerative disc disease.
Police Lt. Col. Benaly Bayani, chief of the hospital’s Internal Medicine Department, said Marcoleta was placed on antibiotics and advised to remain isolated, but is expected to be fit to attend court proceedings wearing a face mask by 15 July.
