National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) director Melvin Matibag has denied claims circulating on social media that he made derogatory remarks against the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).

Matibag described the viral post as fake and announced a cybercrime investigation Thursday to identify the individuals behind its dissemination.

The NBI strongly condemned the deceptive Facebook post, which falsely attributed anti-INC statements to Matibag.

“The Bureau clarifies that the NBI director never made any such statements,” the NBI said in an official statement.

Agency officials stated that Matibag has consistently demonstrated respect for the INC and its members throughout his career while upholding professionalism, integrity and interfaith harmony.

The NBI added that the false post forms part of a coordinated disinformation campaign intended to sow division and undermine public trust.

Calling the publication “transparent and malicious,” the bureau said its digital forensic teams have begun tracking the source of the fabricated content.

“Pursuant to our mandate, action is being taken to identify and dismantle the coordinated disinformation network responsible for these malicious publications,” the NBI said.

The agency added that it would pursue all available legal remedies to ensure that the perpetrators involved in the fabrication and dissemination of the false information are held fully accountable under the law.
