National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag has denied claims circulating on social media that he made derogatory remarks against the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).

Matibag described the post as fake and announced an investigation to identify those behind its dissemination.

The NBI strongly condemned what it called a deceptive Facebook post that falsely attributed anti-INC statements to Matibag.

“The Bureau clarifies that the NBI Director never made any such statements,” the NBI said.

The agency stated that Matibag has consistently demonstrated respect for the INC and its members throughout his career while upholding professionalism, integrity, and interfaith harmony.

It added that the false post is part of a disinformation campaign intended to sow division and undermine public trust.

Calling the publication “fraudulent and malicious,” the Bureau said it has begun efforts to identify those responsible for creating and spreading the fabricated content.

“Pursuant to our mandate, action is being taken to identify and dismantle the coordinated disinformation network responsible for these malicious publications,” the NBI said.

The NBI added that it would pursue all available legal remedies against individuals found responsible for the alleged fabrication and dissemination of the false information.

“All available legal remedies will be pursued to ensure that perpetrators involved in the fabrication and dissemination of this false information are held fully accountable under the law,” the agency said.
