Fisheries professionals from across Central Luzon completed a four-day Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training on freshwater aquaculture aimed at strengthening technical skills and promoting sustainable fish production.

The training, held from 27 to 30 January at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources–National Fisheries Training Center (BFAR-NFTC) inside the Central Luzon State University compound in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, focused on updated technologies, innovation and best practices in freshwater aquaculture.

Participants included fisheries professionals from local government units and Provincial Fisheries Offices in Region 3, whom BFAR said play a crucial role in implementing fisheries programs at the local level.

Resource speakers from BFAR discussed proper fishpond management, sustainable and resilient aquaculture strategies, and emerging technologies to improve productivity while minimizing environmental impact.

The training also served as a venue for collaboration and exchange of ideas, with BFAR underscoring the need to make the freshwater aquaculture industry more future-ready amid changing technologies and climate challenges.

BFAR said the CPD program is part of its continuing efforts to build the capacity of fisheries professionals in Central Luzon, supporting food security and improving livelihood opportunities in the fisheries sector.
