Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is making her leap into film acting as she joins the cast of The Loved One, marking her much-anticipated big-screen debut.
The news was revealed with the release of the film’s official trailer, which also confirms the long-awaited reunion of Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales. Written and directed by Irene Villamor, the movie is Anne’s first film project since her 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival entry The Mall, The Merrier. It likewise reunites her with Jericho following their past collaborations in the 2008 historical drama Baler and the 2011 series Green Rose.
The trailer opens in striking black and white, showing Jericho’s character, Eric, waiting for Anne’s Ellie, who is delayed by traffic. Eric sends her a message that reads, “Love you still,” before a reflective voiceover hints at the emotional imbalance in their relationship: “Dahil ako ang mas nagmahal, ako ang laging naghihintay.”
Set to Cup of Joe’s song “Multo,” the preview weaves between tender memories and emotionally charged moments. It also briefly introduces Gray’s character, who appears to be Eric’s co-worker, offering a glimpse into her role in the story.
Beyond her foray into acting, Gray remains a prominent and multifaceted public figure in the Philippines. She is widely known for representing the country and winning the Miss Universe 2018 crown.
Gray also made headlines for her participation in the Trillion Peso March, where she joined calls for greater transparency and accountability from government officials. The beauty queen urged authorities to take concrete steps in addressing corruption and to uphold the principles of good governance.
The Loved One opens in Philippine cinemas on 11 February, making it a timely offering for Valentine’s weekend moviegoers.
