The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said it will investigate the circulation of false reports on social media claiming that Jesus Crispin Remulla had died, warning that the incident may constitute a cybercrime offense.

Acting NBI Director Angelito Magno said the spread of false information online violates Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which falls under the bureau’s jurisdiction.

Magno said the NBI continues to assist government agencies and private individuals in cases involving misinformation, disinformation, and online libel, even as complaints related to false online content continue to increase.

He added that the bureau is also intensifying efforts against the online sale of illegal and unregulated products, particularly medicines and health-related scams, in coordination with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Department of Health.

The move follows a recent privilege speech by Raffy Tulfo raising concerns over the proliferation of unregulated drugs being sold online.
