Missing bride’s fiancé now person of interest

Police have named the fiancé of a missing bride-to-be a person of interest as the search for the woman entered its seventh day Wednesday.

Sherra de Juan disappeared 10 December, just four days before her scheduled wedding. Investigators with the Quezon City Police District’s (QCPD) Special Investigation Team said her fiancé, Mark Arjay Reyes, is considered a person of interest because he was the last person to see her.

“He is a POI, but not necessarily a suspect yet,” P/Maj. Jennifer Gannaban, QCPD Public Information Office chief, told DAILY TRIBUNE. “Because Mark was the last one with her and is the fiancé, he is treated as a POI.”

De Juan reportedly told Reyes on the day she vanished that she was going to a mall to buy wedding shoes. She never returned home and left her mobile phone behind while it was charging.

Police are currently conducting a forensic examination of the phone to reconstruct her final contacts and activities. Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from her neighborhood and the mall area to establish a timeline.

On Tuesday, police questioned Reyes and De Juan’s brother for more than seven hours. Reyes, a 31-year-old IT engineer, told investigators he remains baffled by the disappearance and said there were no signs of cold feet.

“She was decided. We have been engaged since 2023, and I didn’t see any hesitation while we were planning,” Reyes told authorities. He added that they had been in a relationship for nearly a decade and that De Juan “is not the type” to walk away or talk to other men.

The QCPD continues to validate witness statements and search for leads in the case.
