In the aftermath of a widely discussed moment at the recent Aliw Awards Night, Aliw Awards Foundation president and founder Alice Reyes has stepped forward to address the disappointment expressed by singer-actress Zsa Zsa Padilla, issuing a public apology marked by candor and reconciliation.
Reyes acknowledged that the situation surrounding Padilla’s curtailed stage moment caused hurt, describing it as an unintended outcome of the foundation’s ongoing efforts to streamline its annual awards program. According to Reyes, the decision was not personal, but part of a broader move—initiated as early as last year—to keep the ceremony concise by limiting speeches and onstage time for honorees.
Still, Reyes emphasized that the incident was deeply regrettable, particularly given Padilla’s stature and long-standing contributions to Philippine entertainment. She shared that hearing Padilla speak would have been welcome, and noted that accommodations could have been made had there been prior notice of Padilla’s intention to deliver remarks during the program.
The Aliw Awards Foundation head also made it clear that the responsibility for the moment extended beyond a single decision, offering her apology on behalf of both the organization and the production team behind the ceremony. Her statement underscored that the intention was never to diminish Padilla’s recognition or significance, but rather to manage the program flow—a balance that, in this instance, fell short.
Closing her message on a conciliatory note, Reyes expressed sincere admiration for Padilla’s artistry and legacy, and conveyed openness to making amends moving forward. She suggested that future opportunities for reconciliation and recognition remain possible, signaling a desire to restore goodwill and mutual respect.
As the conversation continues within the entertainment community, the episode has sparked broader reflection on how award-giving bodies honor not only achievements, but also the voices behind them—especially those whose careers have helped shape the industry itself.
