The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday said it has yet to confirm whether an Interpol Red Notice has been issued against fugitive former Ako Bicol party-list congressman Zaldy Co.

“No confirmation from the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime (PCTC),” DOJ spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez said in response to queries on whether a request for an Interpol Red Notice has been filed against Co.

Earlier, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said Co and 17 others are facing warrants of arrest after being indicted on graft charges linked to alleged corruption in flood control projects.

The President said arrest warrants have been issued against Co and 17 other individuals connected to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Sunwest Corporation.

According to Marcos, the Office of the Ombudsman filed charges against Co and the other respondents based on evidence gathered by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) and the DPWH.

The President stressed that law enforcement authorities will serve the warrants and that those charged will not receive special treatment.

Marcos also said investigations will continue to ensure accountability for those who illegally profited from anomalous flood control and other infrastructure projects.

During his Fourth State of the Nation Address on 28 July, Marcos denounced what he described as massive corruption in flood control projects and announced the creation of the ICI on 11 September to probe irregularities in flood control and other government infrastructure projects over the past decade.
