Guimba, Nueva Ecija – A barangay captain was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Barangay Banitan on the afternoon of 23 July 2025.

According to witnesses, Barangay Chairman Cenon Pineda Jr. and his son Noel were supervising the construction of their gate when two armed men riding in tandem opened fire.

Both father and son sustained gunshot wounds during the attack.

Pineda was rushed to Guimba General Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

His son was brought to a separate medical facility for treatment.

Police have launched a hot pursuit operation to apprehend the suspects, who fled the scene aboard an NMax scooter.
