A sustainability initiative launched by Megaworld Hotels and Resorts (MHR) gathered close to 3,000 Sampaguita seedlings through the support of its guests nationwide.

The campaign, dubbed Petals to Purpose, began in March 2025 as part of the group’s Earth Hour activities.

Guests were encouraged to purchase a Sampaguita seedling for P60, with the commitment that each seedling would be planted in partner communities as part of MHR’s environmental and social responsibility programs.

As a highlight of the campaign, MHR recently turned over 100 Sampaguita seedlings to Project PEARLS Foundation, a nonprofit organization serving underprivileged communities through education, nutrition, and livelihood programs.

The ceremonial handover took place at the Project PEARLS community center in Bocaue, Bulacan on 11 July 2025.

“Sampaguita started as MHR’s brand of service, but it has become the heart of our purpose. Through this initiative, we wanted to plant seeds of hope, joy, and national pride,” said Charlene Go-Co, Head of Marketing Innovations at MHR.

“As this movement continues to blossom, we look forward to creating more shared spaces where people can experience the Sampaguita spirit together,” she added.

The event was attended by MHR executives Eden Decano, Director of Finance; Karlo Evangelista, Corporate Sustainability Manager; and sustainability representatives from various MHR properties.

According to Project PEARLS, the seedlings will be planted around their learning center, while others will be distributed to local families and young scholars to cultivate at home.

The latest partnership builds on an earlier engagement between MHR and Project PEARLS, when the hotel group hosted a Sampaguita-themed Thanksgiving celebration in November 2024.

That event featured the planting of 300 Sampaguita seedlings and a variety of community activities, including storytelling sessions, lei-making, and feeding programs — all centered around the national flower.

The remaining seedlings collected from the Petals to Purpose campaign will be planted in select locations over the coming months.
