More than 300 students from Kapalong, Davao del Norte are set to begin their work assignments in government offices and partner institutions after qualifying as beneficiaries of the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).

Spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), SPES is a short-term employment program designed to assist financially challenged but deserving students. It aims to support their education while providing valuable hands-on work experience in public service and allied sectors.

From over 1,100 applicants, 445 students advanced to the interview stage, and 340 were eventually selected. Each beneficiary will receive a daily wage of ₱553 during their deployment in various offices and institutions across the municipality.

DOLE Davao del Norte Senior Labor Employment Officer Erlinda Mamitag emphasized that SPES serves not only as a source of income but also as a platform for youth development and empowerment.

“As this year’s beneficiaries begin their deployment, the program continues its commitment to empowering the youth through employment and education, supporting their future while strengthening local communities,” said DOLE Regional Office XI Director Atty. Randolf Pensoy.

Pensoy also credited the successful rollout of the program to the strong partnership between DOLE Davao del Norte and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Kapalong, whose coordination ensures effective implementation of SPES in the area.
