TARLAC CITY — Combined police and army personnel successfully unearthed 250 bombs Friday night in Barangay Sapang Tagalog, just near the Northern Luzon Command of the Philippine Army.

Tarlac city administrator Atty. Joselito Castro, in an interview, said that the discovery of the bombs said to be still active and dangerous, was accidental when a laborer suddenly hit a metal object beneath the road they are repairing.

When they continued to check, Atty. Castro said, the laborers found several bombs in the area, prompted them to report this to the barangay captain.

The barangay official, in turn, reported this to the police and the army who immediately condoned off the area to prevent accident.

Castro said that to avoid accident, Vic Angeles, wife of Mayor Cristy Angeles, lent his backhoe to dig the area, saying digging it manually is too dangerous. “The back hoe lent by Mr. Vic Angeles can be replaced in case it will be destroyed.

The area, Castro, believed, was once a garrison of the Japanese soldiers during World War 2.

Mayor Angeles thanked the army and the police for their prompt action, preventing a possible accidental explosion, Castro added.
