Authorities reported on Tuesday that a fire broke out in a candy warehouse in Manila, injuring two firefighters.
Reports said that the fire started around 11:36 a.m. at Warehouse 1 of MM Lucky Multisales Warehouse on the corner of Bambang Street and Abad Santos Avenue. It was declared under first alarm and quickly escalated to second alarm due to the thick smoke.
Firefighters encountered difficulty extinguishing the blaze due to poor ventilation in the warehouse, which trapped thick smoke inside.
“The smoke was extremely thick and dense, so we couldn’t move to the focal points,” said Manila Bureau of Fire Protection chief investigator Senior Inspector Alejandro Ramos. “We needed to wear medical apparatus to operate properly.”
Two firefighters were injured during the operation. One suffered a minor laceration, while the other sustained injuries after falling three meters. The injured firefighters were immediately transported to Chinese General Hospital.
