ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s Peace, Security and Reconciliation Office has resolved a five-year-old land dispute among three families in Pagalungan town, Maguindanao del Sur that has claimed lives from the three families.
PSRO director Anwar Alamada revealed on Friday that a reconciliation ceremony was held at the PSRO in Cotabato City, marking the end of the dispute on Tuesday.
The involved families signed a peace covenant in the presence of the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities chairperson Butch Malang and several Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces commanders.
They took religious oaths before the asatidhs, symbolizing their commitment to upholding the agreement.
Alameda also disclosed that the land dispute or conflict has resulted in the loss of lives among the Bacana, Dimaagil and Masdal families and admitted that rido or clan conflicts pose a significant challenge to the BARMM government and disrupts the community’s way of life.
“We have an immediate conflict mitigation program, if conflict emerges, we will immediately try to stop the fighting from getting worse,” Alameda said.
The PSRO also acknowledged the support it received for community-based resilience programs from civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations and local government units.
In 2023, the PSRO resolved 27 cases of both major and minor rido and established a peace monitoring mechanism to prevent the recurrence of riots.
