MARIVELES, Bataan — GN power Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co. on Sunday announced that it has turned over a plaza and multi-purpose hall to two barangays here as part of its corporate social responsibility program for communities near its power plant.

Arcel Madrid, GMEC assistant vice president for community relations, said the covered plaza was donated to Barangay Baseco Country while the multi-purpose hall was given to Barangay Sisiman, both of which are near the coal power plant operated by GMEC.

"I am glad to be able to witness another successful social development program," Madrid told Daily Tribune.

It was not the first time that GN power donated such structure in Bataan. The company was also active in providing social services, donating foods at the height of pandemic, among other outreach activities.

Madrid acknowledged the important role of social progress through the enhancement and modernization of public facilities to ensure the sustainable development of the community.

"Although Baseco Country is not the host community of the coal power plant, the barangay is one of the nearest barangays adjacent to the plant site. GMEC will always take part and support the barangay in its campaign towards progress," Madrid said in a statement.

Baseco Country barangay chairwoman Leonida Valderama expressed thanks to GMEC and hoped that more projects be undertaken in her village.

On the turnover of the Sisiman multi-purpose hall, Madrid stressed the importance of stimulating education through the Alternative Learning Center and empowering the youth.

He said that the new hall will benefit the Sangguniang Kabataan of the seaside barangay.

Sisiman barangay chairman Honesto Cabanillas expressed his gratitude for the company's support to his village.

The plant sites of GMEC and its sister company, GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. are in Barangay Alas-asin.
