Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. on Wednesday called for collective action to sustain peace, security and economic development in Misamis Occidental, stressing that the province's progress depends on the participation of both government and citizens.

Speaking at the fourth Araw ng Parangal: Search for Outstanding Misamisnon at the Oroquieta City Bayfront Arena, Teodoro said development requires sustained cooperation, effective leadership and shared responsibility.

The event, held as part of the province's 97th founding anniversary celebration, recognized individuals for their achievements in leadership, public service and other fields.

“So ang asenso hindi lang 'yan trabaho ng governor, hindi lang 'yan trabaho ng kung sino, trabaho ng lahat,” Teodoro said.

The defense chief emphasized that maintaining peace and security is essential to preserving the province's development gains and creating opportunities for future generations.

He said communities must remain vigilant in protecting the stability that allows businesses, infrastructure and public services to flourish.

Teodoro also stressed the importance of safeguarding the country's natural resources, particularly its maritime resources in the West Philippine Sea, for future generations.

He challenged young Filipinos to take an active role in nation-building by keeping pace with technological advancements, infrastructure development, environmental protection and urban planning.

The defense secretary also urged communities to strengthen their resilience against climate change and natural disasters, noting the importance of preparing for emerging challenges.

Congratulating the awardees, Teodoro said their accomplishments should inspire others to contribute to their communities.

“Please accept our congratulations for your achievements. It's very important na magkaroon tayo ng mga araw na ganito so that we know what is happening in our communities and that we have people who we can make role models and serve as examples, of which all of you are,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by Misamis Occidental Gov. Henry Oaminal, Vice Gov. Rowena Gutierrez, Reps. Jason Almonte and Sancho Fernando Oaminal, Asenso Pinoy Party-list Rep. Henry Oaminal Jr., Oroquieta City Mayor Lemuel Meyrick Acosta and other local officials.

The annual recognition program honors Misamis Occidental residents whose contributions have brought distinction to the province.
