911 call leads to rescue of 16-year-old recruited to work at Leyte bar

A 16-year-old girl who was allegedly prevented from leaving after being recruited to work as a bar entertainer was rescued by police in Palo, Leyte, following an emergency call to 911 on Sunday, 1 November 2026.
According to Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8), the minor traveled from Agusan del Sur to Leyte on 30 October with two female companions in search of employment.
The teenager reportedly misrepresented her age to secure work at a local establishment. However, when she expressed her desire to return home, her companions allegedly refused to let her leave, citing an outstanding debt.
Personnel from the Palo Municipal Police Station immediately responded to Barangay Guindapunan and coordinated with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office to assist the minor.
Social workers also contacted the girl's father through a video call to inform him of her situation.
PRO-8 Director Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño emphasized the importance of the 911 emergency hotline in protecting minors and other vulnerable individuals.
