Actor McCoy de Leon has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his past relationship with social media personality Sachzna Laparan and his longtime romantic involvement with actress Elisse Joson, dismissing allegations that he had been romantically involved with both women at the same time.

The actor spoke about the issue during the black carpet premiere of his latest horror film, VHS (Viva Horror Stories), held at SM Megamall on October 26.

Rather than dwell on the details of his personal life, McCoy emphasized the importance of protecting the people affected by unverified stories, particularly their families and children.

“I am always praying and hoping that we can be more responsible sharing information,” McCoy said when asked about the controversy.

He also expressed concern over how quickly speculation can spread, especially when private relationships become subjects of public discussion.

“Lalo na false information, kasi may family involved. Both families involved. Lalo na pinaka-important sa ’kin, may bata involved,” he stressed.

The controversy gained attention following Sachzna’s appearance on DJ Jhaiho’s Banana Krew, where she unexpectedly opened up about her romantic history with McCoy.

Sachzna confirmed that she and the actor had been in a relationship during their younger years, long before their respective careers brought them greater public attention.

“Naging ex ko. Ex ko siya… Bata pa kami noon. Bata pa ako noon,” she shared.

Their connection reportedly began when Sachzna was studying at Lyceum of the Philippines University while McCoy was attending Mapúa University.

However, what caught the attention of viewers was Sachzna’s revelation that they reconnected after McCoy’s stint on Pinoy Big Brother.

According to Sachzna, they briefly explored the possibility of rekindling their relationship, although nothing serious eventually developed.

“After ng PBB niya, nanligaw pa ulit siya sa akin, hindi naman nanligaw, nagkaroon kami ng parang connection ulit, pero hindi na talaga nag-work out. Wala na talaga,” she recalled.

The conversation took an unexpected turn when DJ Jhaiho raised the possibility that McCoy might have already been romantically involved with Elisse during that period.

Sachzna, however, admitted that she was unaware of the actual status of McCoy and Elisse’s relationship at the time.

“Huh? Hindi ko alam. Baka hindi naman. Baka naghiwalay sila or what, pero hindi ko talaga alam!” she explained.

She further clarified that she and McCoy had communicated again following his reality television appearance but maintained that she did not know the circumstances surrounding his relationship with Elisse.

The revelations subsequently fueled online discussions, with some netizens questioning the timeline of McCoy’s romantic relationships.

Despite the speculation, Sachzna’s statements did not establish that McCoy had maintained overlapping relationships.

McCoy, for his part, rejected the allegations and appealed for greater sensitivity when discussing matters involving people who have families and children.

Interestingly, McCoy and Sachzna were both present at the October 26 premiere of VHS, which also brought together other cast members and director Darryl Yap.

Their appearance at the same event came amid renewed public interest in their romantic past, although there was no confirmation that the two personally discussed the controversy during the premiere.

Meanwhile, VHS (Viva Horror Stories), a horror trilogy produced by Viva Films, is scheduled to open in cinemas nationwide on October 28.

For McCoy, the renewed attention surrounding his love life appears to have reinforced one message: public curiosity should never come at the expense of responsible reporting and the privacy of those involved.
