The Philippine National Police (PNP) is exploring closer cooperation with Slovak law enforcement agencies in training, knowledge exchange and public safety initiatives amid evolving security challenges.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. met Slovak Ambassador to the Philippines Miloš Koterec during a courtesy visit at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Tuesday, 15 September.

“The visit is an opportunity for the PNP to strengthen our international partnerships and explore areas where we can learn from each other, particularly in police development, public safety, training, and addressing emerging security challenges,” Nartatez said.

The two officials discussed possible areas of bilateral cooperation, including police development, training frameworks, public safety programs and the exchange of operational knowledge and best practices.

The meeting followed the recent inauguration of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Manila, which the PNP said could provide an avenue for closer government-to-government and law enforcement cooperation between the two countries.

“Our international partnerships should ultimately benefit our people. Through the exchange of knowledge, training, and best practices, we can improve our capabilities and provide more responsive and effective police services,” Nartatez said.

The PNP said closer international cooperation could also help police forces respond to emerging security threats that increasingly extend beyond national borders.

Nartatez said the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen the PNP’s international law enforcement partnerships and improve personnel development.
