A 31-year-old man was arrested by police officers after allegedly causing alarm and disturbance while brandishing an improvised firearm and shouting at nearby residents in Barangay Don Bosco, Parañaque City on Tuesday, 15 September.

The arrested person was identified only by the alias Julius, a housekeeping worker, and a resident of Barangay Moonwalk of the said city.

He is facing charges for alleged violations of Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code (Alarms and Scandals), Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Section 11, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Initial investigation disclosed that police officers were conducting routine patrol at around 6:20 p.m. when they were approached by a concerned citizen who reported the presence of a male individual who was allegedly intoxicated, causing disturbance, and brandishing a homemade firearm locally known as a sumpak.

Responding police officers immediately proceeded to the reported area along Saudi Arabia Street, Barangay Don Bosco, where they reportedly saw the suspect walking along the street while holding and brandishing an improvised firearm. He was allegedly shouting and challenging nearby residents to a fight.

The police officers approached him and repeatedly ordered him to put down the firearm. However, he allegedly resisted, prompting the responding officers to effect his arrest.

A subsequent lawful search resulted in the recovery of one transparent heat-sealed sachet containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu weighing approximately 0.08 gram and with an estimated standard drug price of P544. Also recovered were one improvised firearm locally known as a sumpak and two live caliber .45 ammunition.

The recovered items were properly marked for documentation and further examination.

The arrested person has been turned over to the Station Drug Enforcement Unit of the Parañaque City Police Station for proper investigation and the filing of appropriate complaints through inquest proceedings before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Parañaque City.
