Emirates will become the first airline customer of Lufthansa Technik Philippines’ new aircraft maintenance facility at Clark International Airport once operations there begin in 2028.
Lufthansa Technik announced that it had extended its maintenance agreement with the Dubai-based airline through 2030.
Under the agreement, Lufthansa Technik Philippines will continue carrying out major maintenance work on Emirates’ Airbus A380 aircraft.
The work is already being done at the company’s existing facility at NAIA, where two maintenance lines are assigned to Emirates.
Lufthansa Technik said the agreement is one of the largest contracts by value in the history of its Philippine operation.
The company said it has completed more than 30 maintenance checks on Emirates A380 aircraft since their partnership began in 2023.
The Clark facility is being built on a 157,000-square-meter site at Clark International Airport and will become Lufthansa Technik Philippines’ second location in the country.
The company broke ground on the project on 6 August.
Lufthansa Technik said the project involves an investment in the $3-million range and is expected to create around 1,200 highly skilled jobs.
The facility is planned to have space for up to nine large aircraft and will include an aircraft paint shop and specialized inspection workshops.
The company said the Clark expansion will increase its capacity as demand for aircraft maintenance continues to grow.
Lufthansa Technik Philippines is a joint venture between Germany’s Lufthansa Technik and Philippine company MacroAsia Corp.
