SoftBank Group is seeking another $10-billion loan as it lines up more financing for its massive investment in OpenAI.

The two-year facility would carry an interest margin of about 275 basis points over the Secured Overnight Financing Rate, with Mizuho Bank acting as lead arranger and bookrunner, according to Bloomberg.

Part of the proceeds could be used to repay a $40-billion bridge loan SoftBank secured earlier this year to fund its OpenAI investments.

The Japanese technology group is expected to invest close to $65 billion in OpenAI by October.

The latest loan would come only weeks after SoftBank secured a separate $10-billion facility backed by its OpenAI stake.

That earlier financing followed months of negotiations after lenders raised concerns over how to value shares in a private company. SoftBank eventually offered a corporate guarantee, giving lenders recourse to the parent company if the pledged OpenAI shares were insufficient.

SoftBank is also considering raising between $10 billion and $20 billion through a bond sale to refinance its OpenAI-related borrowing.

The company is separately planning a record 1 trillion yen, or about $6.3 billion, retail bond sale in Japan as it continues to finance its artificial intelligence investments.

The borrowing spree highlights founder Masayoshi Son’s increasingly concentrated bet on AI and OpenAI as technology companies pour hundreds of billions of dollars into data centers and computing infrastructure.

SoftBank and Mizuho declined to comment on the latest loan talks.
