  • The Philippines secured the support of ASEAN labor ministers for four measures aimed at strengthening worker protection and labor standards across the region, the Department of Labor and Employment said Friday.

The measures cover labor market and social resilience, fair and ethical recruitment, occupational safety and health in the informal sector, and labor inspection in the fishing industry.

The Philippine delegation, led by Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino, presented the four outcome documents during the 29th ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Meeting in Thailand.

The documents seek to address changing labor market conditions, promote fair recruitment practices and improve safety and labor standards in high-risk sectors.

With the ministers’ backing, the documents will be submitted for adoption at the 49th ASEAN Summit in November.

The Philippine delegation also reported that preparations were underway for the 2026 ASEAN Green Jobs Forum, which will be held in Manila. The forum will promote employment opportunities that support both workers and environmental sustainability.
