President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) during the university’s 58th commencement exercises Thursday morning at the Philippine International Convention Center.

PLM University president Domingo Y. Reyes Jr. presented the diploma on behalf of the Board of Regents, conferring the degree honoris causa upon the chief executive with its associated rights, honors and responsibilities.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso led the bestowal of the academic regalia alongside Reyes before introducing the president as the commencement speaker for the graduating Class of 2026.

Accepting the university’s highest honorary distinction, Marcos expressed gratitude and noted the shared commitment between his administration and the municipal university to keep education accessible and central to nation-building.

The President referenced the commencement theme, “Mga Makabagong Pantas: Taglay ang Karunungan Tungo sa Kadakilaan at Kaunlaran,” highlighting PLM’s history of providing higher education opportunities to youth regardless of socioeconomic background.

Addressing the graduates, Marcos urged them to apply their education toward public service and national progress, stressing the university’s core values of wisdom, progress and greatness as they enter their respective careers.
