  • Three suspects were arrested for alleged petroleum theft and violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, during a police operation in Barangay Catotoran Norte, Camalaniugan, Cagayan, early Wednesday, 26 August 2026.

At around 2:15 a.m., personnel of the Camalaniugan Municipal Police Station spotted a maroon van parked near a Globe cell site tower and conducted an inspection.

Police found five empty gallons and two plastic drums inside the vehicle. The driver, identified only by the alias “Kiko,” was questioned at the scene.

Two other individuals, identified as aliases “Ramon” and “Ricky,” were later seen emerging from the cell site fence and attempting to flee. Police pursued and arrested the two.

An inspection of the area led to the recovery of eight gallons containing petroleum, which police believed had been taken from the cell site.

During a body search, Ramon allegedly discarded a small heat-sealed transparent sachet containing suspected shabu weighing about one gram, with an estimated standard drug price of P6,800.

Police arrested Ramon for alleged violation of Section 11, Article II of RA 9165, which penalizes possession of dangerous drugs.

Further investigation indicated that Kiko and his companions were allegedly involved in the petroleum theft and that the maroon Hyundai Starex was used in the operation.

Authorities also said the suspects had been linked to other theft incidents in Cagayan, suggesting a possible pattern of criminal activity.

The recovered items were inventoried at the scene in the presence of barangay officials. Police also coordinated with the Land Transportation Office to verify the vehicle.

The suspects and recovered evidence were brought to the Camalaniugan Police Station for documentation and proper disposition. Police said appropriate charges are being prepared against the suspects.

PRO2 Regional Director PBGen Mariano C. Rodriguez commended the police personnel for their vigilance and swift response.

Rodriguez said the operation underscored the importance of police visibility and prompt action in responding to reports of criminal activity. He said PRO2 would continue strengthening police presence across the Cagayan Valley.

He also directed police units in the region to remain vigilant, responsive and proactive in maintaining peace and order and protecting communities.
