Floodwaters have receded in barangays Malanday and Tumana after the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) deployed large mobile booster pumps to assist Marikina City following heavy rains, local officials said Wednesday.
The emergency deployment came after existing local pumping stations in the area failed to operate during the downpour.
Marikina City Mayor Marjorie Ann Teodoro said the mobile units accelerated the discharge of floodwater from the inundated communities into the Marikina River.
“Many thanks to chairman Don Artes and the entire MMDA team for their fast and prompt response,” Teodoro said. “The immediate deployment of booster pumps was a huge help in receding the flood and allowing our communities to return to normal.”
Teodoro pledged to strengthen the city’s partnership with the MMDA to ensure more responsive flood mitigation efforts in the future.
