All the 10 members of the so-called “Maleta Boys” who were unable to post bail last Friday in connection with the perjury charges have been official released around 1:10 p.m., Saturday, 8 August.

Theypaid a total of ₱720,000 for their combined bail to clear their perjury charges as they were slapped  ₱72,000 each.

Each individual is facing four counts of perjury, with the recommended bail set at ₱18,000 per count.

Because the court's Office of the Clerk of Court (OCC) does not accept physical cash, their legal counsel, Atty. Levito Baligod, had to upload approximately ₱740,000 into an online payment portal on Saturday morning to successfully clear the ₱720,000 base bail alongside processing transactions and court fees.

Baligod shared that the over ₱1 million total budget earmarked for the group's cumulative legal bonds (which also includes separate cyberlibel complaints) was pulled together using his personal family resources alongside generous contributions donated by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and members of the public.

To recall, the 10 bodyguards linked to the so-called “Maleta Boys” failed to post bail on Friday prompting Baligod to returnto the Las Piñas Regional Trial Court (RTC) to complete their bail processing.

Baligod arrived at the court at around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, saying his legal team had completed the online payment needed for the bail after banks closed Friday and were unavailable on Saturday.

“Tinapos lang namin ‘yung magload ng cash sa online kasi walang bangko ngayon.

‘Yung OCC is not allowed to receive cash. Puro online ang payment so we needed to upload sa online ‘yung about P740,000,” he said.

Baligod said the team was ready to submit the remaining documents to the Office of the Court Administrator (OCA).

“We are now ready to submit all the documents. Naghihintay na rin ‘yung OCA officers,” he said.

He said he expected the 10 bodyguards to be released before noon.“Oo. Kailangang makalabas ngayon,” he said.

The legal team initially intended to process the bail in Pasay, but Baligod said the preferred bank near the court was closed.

The team will instead submit the proof of payment issued Friday as part of the bail requirements.

The 10 were arrested Friday after failing to complete their bail payment before the bank’s 3 p.m. cutoff. They were brought to the Las Piñas Police Station beside the RTC.

Of the original 18 accused, three, Rommel Bobares, Johnny Buduan and Rodante Orbillio, successfully posted bail Friday.

One other accused was in Cotabato to attend the wake of a loved one and was expected to post bail there.

Baligod also questioned why only three of the 13 accused who appeared at the Las Piñas RTC on Friday were able to complete the bail process.

He said his team had prepared the necessary documents for the courts in Caloocan, Muntinlupa, San Juan and Las Piñas.

“As I said, we already prepared for all the documents necessary in Caloocan, Muntinlupa, San Juan, and Las Piñas courts…”

Baligod said his staff had been at the Las Piñas RTC as early as 8:30 a.m. Friday because court operations were expected to be suspended, prompting them to arrive early.

The 10 later spent the night at the Las Piñas Police Station after no RTC night court was available to complete their bail processing.

Baligod earlier confirmed that four of the original 18 complainants had recanted their allegations involving the so-called “Maleta Boys.”

He previously claimed that the four had been subjected to intimidation and offers of money to withdraw their statements, including an alleged offer of as much as P25 million.

Baligod said the 10 detained bodyguards were disappointed by the recantations.

He also said he planned to present new witnesses who were not among the original complainants.

“You will be properly notified when we are ready to present the new witnesses who were not employees of Zaldy Co,” he said.

Baligod did not provide further details about the identities of the prospective witnesses.
