  • The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recovered a suspected piece of rocket debris discovered along the shoreline of Barangay Babuyan Claro in Calayan, Cagayan, on 6 August 2026.

Local authorities received information at around 12:30 p.m. that day from a resident who found an unidentified object at Sitio Naydi in Barangay Babuyan. Before it was turned over to the Coast Guard, the object was temporarily kept by the finder and later retrieved by Philippine Navy Auxiliary personnel.

Coast Guard spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab said an initial inspection found no distinct markings that could conclusively identify the object as rocket debris. She said the item has been secured in a safe location while awaiting further technical assessment by the appropriate authorities.

Cayabyab also warned nearby communities following the discovery.

"We also advise fisherfolk and coastal residents to avoid handling unidentified floating objects and to immediately report similar sightings to the nearest local authorities," Cayabyab said.

Relevant agencies are coordinating to determine the nature and origin of the recovered object.
